A few days ago, we reported on a radio interview in which Oklahoma Secretary of Finance and Revenue Preston Doerflinger stated he was embarrassed to be a Republican because the state legislature agreed to provide enough money to Oklahoma schools so they can meet their financial obligations during the fallout of our government’s fiscal mismanagement.
Since then, two #OklaEd bloggers have weighed in on his comments:
The Doerflinger Kerfuffle
One elected leader who is active on social media and usually engages with #oklaed in lively debate is State Senator Kyle Loveless. Friday, he seemed to defend Doerflinger, using logic that escapes me.
Oh, so it’s in the platform. Does that mean that every Republican has to support everything that’s in the platform? This leads to an interesting sidebar conversation.
The Doerflinger Stance
Follow the masses or follow your heart/head. If you blindly follow your political party’s views, you are making a big mistake. Look at the issue, both sides, and decide for yourself how you feel about it.
It takes a well-educated person to stop and look at both sides of an issue, so educate yourself. Get the facts, look at other people’s opinions (on both sides of the issue), and decide for yourself.
