State Board of Education Member and Retired General Lee Baxter reported in Oklahoma Parents and Educators for Public Education this evening that he is content with both resolutions passed in the legislature.
The House passed an amended version of HJR 1070 and the Senate passed an amended version of SJR 75.
Pay attention friends. The standards have been approved by both the House and the Senate but with different resolutions. In the house version as amended, the State Board, on which I sit, will ask the organizations who reviewed the standards, to submit any changes or edits they recommend. Guessing we will give them a few days. This input comes to the Board who can accept parts and reject parts. This happens under the direction of our Board chair. None of these will change the approved standards and implementation begins at once.
Yet to be resolved is whether the house or senate version will be adopted. I AM CONTENT with either version. We have Oklahoma standards which Oklahomans wrote. I got into this with you to help. ROPE input being accepted??? That ain’t happening. Tyler Bridges has this right. This is a major victory for all of us who want Oklahoma educators leading Oklahoma education. Let’s see what happens tomorrow but it is gonna be what you wanted.
Clinton Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Tyler Bridges stated:
They didn’t have to do deals or have ROPE involved to get them in place. This actually disavowed the power they did have. However, they will most likely pass by default on Thursday anyhow.
