Editor’s Note: Make sure you read our blow-by-blow overview of the standards scuffle from yesterday.
Didn’t we already decide that we were going to let Oklahomans write our standards and boot out all the national interests that want to eat our children?
It looks like we’re letting them back in again…
Achieve — the nonpartisan, nonprofit education reform organization that helped develop the Common Core state standards — has evaluated academic standards for more than 25 states and compared standards in 15 countries over the past 15 years.
“In both content areas Oklahoma’s new standards fail to serve students, teachers, or parents well. The standards cover a lot of content, but with very little depth; a phenomena sometimes referred to as ‘a mile wide and an inch deep’ in standards language,” stated Sandy Boyd, chief operating officer at Achieve.
Do we really want to give credibility to an organization that helped write the standards we kicked out of the state?
