Are any of you Star Trek fans? Bear with us. We’ll explain this question in just a bit.
Oklahoma House Speaker Jeff Hickman claims in a Sunday opinion piece that education funding is up since the recession (The Tulsa World indicated this wasn’t true back in 2014.), that our retirement systems are “on the road to solvency” (on the backs of those who give their lives to our state) after Republicans saved it from “years of robbing the system” (By whom? The GOP Senator who admitted $1.4 million nonprofit fraud? Oh wait. He didn’t serve as a Senator for the six years required to earn a pension.), and that current conservative lawmakers “are making progress on nearly 100 years of mismanagement and failed policies.” Perhaps he just forgot our successful Pre-K program, our alternative school program, and Oklahoma’s Promise (which Hickman himself has repeatedly tried to dismantle).
We think Hickman must be living in an alternate universe — or perhaps he is living in a Star Trek episode where several quantum realities exist. He’s in the universe where the Enterprise warping innocently through space, while we’re in the one where Captain Picard is dead, the Enterprise is falling apart, and the Borg are about to assimilate everything. Perhaps unicorns and kittens frolic through meadows in his universe, too.
Oklahoma House Speaker: Fixing the past is today’s obstacle
After 10 years implementing conservative ideas, we are making progress on nearly 100 years of mismanagement and failed policies. Despite these obstacles, House Republicans will continue making tough decisions and promote ideas that allow the private sector to create better jobs, make our state more prosperous and provide better opportunities for Oklahomans. We will focus on new efficiencies, continue to fund and improve our schools, restore state infrastructure and make Oklahoma families safer. This is how we will leave Oklahoma — in a better place than we found it.
