For the first time in Oklahoma history, our teachers are storming the Capitol building and — filing for office. Yes, you read that right. Dozens of teachers are expected to line up Wednesday and file their papers to run for the Senate and House in their districts. Some are seeking office to replace term-limited legislators, and some are hoping to replace existing ones who have shown themselves to be very anti-education.
Some people aren’t so happy about this.
Change the World; Make a Difference
Your teachers have gone from buying corn and dog food at the Humpty Dumpty (another 70s reference) to standing up for themselves and their profession. It’s simply radical. Predictably, not everybody is impressed. Our friends at ROPE 2.0 are shocked – SHOCKED! – that teachers would cast off their genteel personas and storm into a different kind of public service.
You can read this rant on the Facebook page of a group that has not only given up on public education, but also thinks that highly qualified educators using their words to state opinions grounded in years of educational service, or running for office is not befitting “models of society.”
‘The Teacher Caucus’: Pro-public education candidates to file Wednesday for state legislative races
At least 30 public school educators, spouses of public school educators, local school board members and other supporters with school ties from across the state are planning to file en masse for legislative races on Wednesday afternoon.
By the way, we took another look at that Facebook post linked above and noticed this accusation:
Progressive educators are promoting thoughts and behaviors that reduce an individual’s ability to control themselves. When you can’t control yourself, you open the door for others to control you.
How are people controlled into compliance by force?
Etc. etc. etc.
The more force, the less freedom.
