We guess you can’t have everything you want.
While the legislator passed the new Oklahoma Academic Standards for Math and English Language Arts a few weeks ago, they’re finagling the new budget to make it appear that common education receives no more cuts.
For the record, this is right in line with one legislator’s office, which assured us yesterday that we should be happy education isn’t receiving any more cuts. Things that make you go “hmmm….”
Unfortunately, districts who have been preparing for additional cuts were wise. We should elect more of those people to our legislature.
New details: State budget agreement slashes funds for school activities and textbooks
The cuts include the entire $33 million textbook fund for local schools, $40 million of support for public school activities, such as alternative education and remedial student services, and $6.6 million for the administration of the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
